Recover Your Windows User Account

Forgot Windows Password? Don't worry! Here is the trick to recover your user account without any loss of data.

You need the following things:
  • A pen drive with at least 2 GB of memory.
  • Unetbootin Windows 581 or latest version.
  • A Linux operating system (Linuxmint, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Back Track or etc.) that will be used to create bootable pen drive using Unetbootin software.
  • I suggest to use Linuxmint or Ubuntu of size of almost 800 MB because this will be fit for the given pen drive's size or you can use pen drive of respective size of Linux O.S.
Recover Your Windows User Account

Let's begin Windows account recovery process:

1. Create a bootable pen drive using Unetbootin and restart your PC or Laptop using the bootable pen drive.

2. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32

3. Delete the file named as sethc.exe (make sure to create a backup copy of this file and restore the original sethc.exe file once you have logged in your Windows account). Now copy the file cmd.exe and paste it in the same directory (i.e. C:\Windows\System32) then rename it as sethc.exe

4. Now, you have to Shut Down your PC or Laptop and restart it without bootable pen drive. When the Windows login-screen asking your password appears, just press Shift Key 8-times.

5. A command prompt will appear, type the following command and press Enter:

Skip this command if you remember your username correctly.
